Southwest Couloir

Another Perfect Day - Well Timed! This zone and line has been on the list for a bit now... Skiing it in safe and favorable conditions requires several variables to align just right.  The  southern aspects are typically not a favorable one, this year has been an exception as northerly winds have been more prevalent, filling in lines which are typically thin.  The last huge storm cycle dropping around 3' of snow at the higher elevations really caked things, followed by a couple of clear warm days resulted in some nice  freeze thaw cycles to help stabilize the massive amounts of storm snow.  When we saw the forecast calling a nice refresh at elevation, but more importantly a cool and cloudy day we figured it was a good time to for the southwest couloir.... the cloud cover was going to remove the wet slide risk from the equation.. nailed it Great Day!

With northerly aspects still being well preserved... thus yet to really corn at high elevations we thought it would be a good time to head for the east face on Cronin Peak. Although the approach up Baldwin Gulch is close to 6 miles we had beta that the approach was well snow covered thus made for an quick and enjoyable exit ski right back to the van.  #Alltime!
